One of the body’s biggest enemies in the menopause is stress.

When your body is stressed it uses progesterone to manufacture the stress hormone cortisol and this in turn leaves us with an excess of oestrogen.

This excess could cause symptoms such as heavy painful periods, weight gain and fluid retention. It may also contribute to conditions such as fibroids and exacerbate endometriosis and fibrocystic breasts

Excess oestrogen can also cause mood swings
